About This Project!
With 11 artists, including 6 actors, 4 writers and a director, we will collaborate through improvisation and other theater techniques to bring to life articles pertaining to intersectional topics related to women published in newspapers, magazines and on online sources.
Topics touch upon reproductive rights, health, environmental justice, human rights, economic sustainability, sexual assault, equal rights, parenting, misogyny, gender parity, anti-racism, LGBTQ, more.
At the end of the five-day devising period we will present a informal work-in-progress for free (donations accepted) to an audience in Building 6A of Nolan Lane on Governor's Island on Sat. Sept 8 at 1 pm, 3 pm and 4:30 pm. Governor's Island is reached by a 7-minute ferry ride from lower Manhattan or from Brooklyn (fare: $0-3 roundtrip).
The Living Newspaper is a theater concept that was pioneered in the U.S. during the WPA and its Federal Theater Project. We are bringing the concept into the 21st century during a time of information overload to help shine a light on the concerns of women and women identified persons of any gender.
After the Governor's Island residency, we plan to continue devising the Living Newspaper and present a finished edition to audiences throughout NYC in Spring 2019.
