DAN the HANDIEST man!

About Me

Hey, I'm Dan! First things first. Am I really the handiest man in the world? Probably not. But I am quite handy and there were just way too many guys out there called "Dan the Handyman." So to differentiate, I decided to declare myself THE HANDIEST!

A little bit about my background, I grew up in a 100 year old house in the Pacific Northwest, and thus have basically grown up working with my hands on a daily basis, assisting my dad on hundreds of remodeling + preservation projects.

I was able to further hone my craft in LA while working as a property manager at several luxury apartment and condo buildings. Then in 2008, my wife and I purchased a neglected business and remodeled it from top to bottom on a shoestring budget. After a ton of hard work, we turned it around and even got featured in InStyle Magazine! We successfully sold the business in 2010 and I have officially been "Dan the Handiest Man!" for 17 years now!

My wife and I are thrilled to be living in Portland now and I'm excited to help you with your next project!

Dan can do these things (and more!) for a flat rate.

If you don't see what you want done here, I may still do it. Feel free to ask!

As a general guide, here are some common things I get asked about that I don’t do: Painting, Drywall, Remodeling, Caulking, Roofing, Flooring - ya know, the specialty stuff.

Pricing

I want my clients to be over the moon with the work they get from me, that's why I like to be as fair and straightforward as possible. After many years of being a handyman in Los Angeles, I can say with the utmost confidence that my prices are amongst the most reasonable you'll find. I will always give you a guaranteed flat rate before we schedule the appointment so everyone is on the same page, and most importantly, that price will not change.

Many handymen won't give you a solid price before you book with them, they'll offer you a "Free Estimate" - that's just a sneaky underhanded tactic to overcharge people. Because usually what'll end up happening is somehow the job "takes longer" or was "more difficult" once they come do the work. So you guessed it, the price goes up and your trust in them (and the size of your wallet) goes down. I've been doing this long enough that I know the time + expertise that goes into each job. I do meticulous work VERY quickly, I don't take breaks, I don't milk my time.

That all being said, once I give you a rundown of the price, there is absolutely no pressure to book with me. Hiring a handyman is a very personal decision and I respect whatever you decide!

As for payment, I accept Venmo, Credit Cards, Cash or PayPal.

Appointments + Booking

The easiest and fastest way to request an appointment is by Email or Text. Feel free to include as much detail as possible including links and pics- I am but one man and the less back and forth the better for everyone involved. Thanks for your help in making this as seamless as possible!

This is what I'll need from you:
(preferably all in one message pretty please)

1) Your Name + Address (so I can make sure you're within my service range)

2) A finalized COMPLETE list of everything you want done for the requested appointment - please include descriptive details of repair issues and/or a description of all items and the quantity of each item/task. Pictures or links to products are also helpful! Then I'll be able to make sure that:

3) Any specific needs in regards to scheduling.
(I will try to accommodate, but know that you may have to wait longer for an appointment)

A sampling of some of my favorite jobs.

I turned a cigar box collection into a gallery wall! I also installed that flat screen. GIANT decal installation in a loft in Downtown LA. Window A/C install- no gaps! Built a supersized dollhouse out of a million tiny parts. Swapped out an old sink and put in this bad boy. Mounted the mirror as well. This guy wanted a hanging light fixture but there was no outlet for one, so I was able to rig it from one of his recessed lights instead. Modern Gallery Wall in Venice. Creatively hanging mirrors with rope! This looks easy enough, but it had be aligned perfectly! Turned a coffee table into a dining table by sawing off old legs and mounting hairpin legs instead. Custom privacy screen using lattice. 10 year old, tired, worn out chaise lounge. Removed and replaced the slings so they're brand new! Installed a heavy duty bamboo fence at a home in Brentwood. BEFORE (the business I owned before remodel)
Weep wop. During our remodel. What a mess! The AFTER! Paint, a new front desk, new display case, and custom gobo light feature among other things!
